Graduate Assistantships
The UNLV Urban Sustainability Initiative (USI) awarded its inaugural USI Graduate Assistantships in Fall 2008 to three highly qualified master's and doctoral students. The GAs are pursuing studies in Economics, Geoscience, and Sociology.
USI GAs may pursue a program of study associated with any facet of sustainability, including environmental, economic, and social/cultural issues. Students will have the opportunity to work closely with faculty in their major program as well as the Office of Urban Sustainability Initiatives to research and promote sustainability topics.
Funding
- $18,000 annual stipend for doctoral students and $15,600 annual stipend for master's degree students.
- Approximately $7,000 for benefits/tuition/fees, including Summer Term.
- USI GAs are appointed on an annual basis. The positions are renewable for up to three years.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be admitted to graduate standing or in the process of applying to a UNLV graduate program.
- Preference will be given to doctoral students.
Application Package

Submit a GA Application form, which includes an essay on the applicant's plans for research, education, and/or community outreach on sustainability, a brief statement of career goals, and a list of three references.
Deadline and Selection Process
- At this time, all USI GAs positions are filled. Please check back each semester for openings.
- A USI GA Selection Committee will review application packages and select recipients.
- Interviews will be required of finalists.
